Description

Solitary bees, butterflies, ladybirds and other small insects such as spiders and earwigs will use the extra large and undeniably impressive Vivara Pro Insect Hotel XXL and which will help support neighbouring fauna and flora.

The hotel is perfect for conservation wildlife spaces, parks & recreational settings, visitor sites, schools and other public places as well as making an impressive garden feature.

Made of spruce wood with a plywood roof and roofing felt for the main frame. Bamboo, birch and sand-lime brick are inserted into individual segments within the hotel to create diverse habitat sections which have the ability to house hundreds of insects.

Leading invertebrate conservation charity, Buglife, were so impressed with our insect houses that they have endorsed the complete Vivara Pro range, commenting on “a really well designed and practical selection” of habitats.

Siting

Place the insect hotel preferably in a sunny area, in close proximity to plants and flowers. The front, where possible, aimed at the south. The hotel can be dug into the ground with the supplied legs, ensure the pole with the protective black layer is just above the ground level. This hotel weighs an notable 70kg so we do strongly recommend that the item is cemented in place for absolute stability.

To attract and encourage the optimal number of insects to the hotel, we recommend planting 100m2 of native, nectar rich plants around the installation.

Maintenance

The insect hotel is treated with a clear water-based substance, and treating this annually with a wildlife-friendly preservative will help maintain an optimum condition for years to come. Check the hotel annually for any general maintenance needs, and only replace the bamboo tubes if damage is observed or they become misplaced.
