Description

This build-in WoodStone® Bat Access Panel has been designed in conjunction with wildlife experts to to give bats access to a building or cavity.

The block has a slot at the front that serves as access to the cavity wall. The slot is 2.5cm high and 16cm wide and has a sloping bottom surface. The box is made using sustainable materials and no chemical additives are using during production.

Our unique WoodStone® material offers good thermal insulation and therefore creates a more stable internal temperature and rough surface to ensure bats have enough grip to access the box. In addition to creating optimal conditions within the box, WoodStone® habitats also help protect inhabitants from predators.

Bats need to increase their body temperature before flight so prefer warm roosting spots, which is why many of our bat boxes have a dark exterior to absorb heat from the sun.

Siting

This Build in WoodStone® Bat Access Panels is specifically made to provide access to bats in the cavity wall, this can be used for new construction or renovation. It is recommended that multiple access panels are used per location.

The box can be situated in any direction, however the southern side is most preferred. Place the box as high as possible in the façade, it should be at least 3 metres (approx. 10ft)  high. Where possible, it should be placed on a façade exposed to the sun in the afternoon though to early evening with a clear flight path to the box. Where bats are, one can find droppings, the entrance should therefore not be placed above a door, window or balcony. Do not place the entrance panel under or in artificial light, and avoid placing where the rain can directly access the box.

  • A durable exterior which makes the boxes resistant to all weather conditions and predators such as squirrels & larger birds
  • The breathable material reduces condensation and prevents rotting
