Woodstone® Lincolnshire Bat Block
This WoodStone® block for hibernating bats, developed in association with the Lincolnshire Bat Group.
A total of four separate roosting areas provide generous space for hibernating bats and a choice of niches: one small apex slot, two tapering 'straight through' slots and a large, tapering sub-divided area accessed from the underside.
The attractive design is suitable for crevice roosting bats and has a rough interior to provide lots of grip. Bats need to increase their body temperature before flight so prefer warm roosting spots, which is why many of our bat boxes have a black exterior to absorb heat from the sun. Woodstone® isn’t just strong, it also has good thermal insulation, reducing temperature fluctuations inside the box and helping to make this an ideal roost site.
Attached using the two mounting holes (fixings not included) or a suitable, bat-friendly fixative. Suitable for use in cellars, tunnels, ice houses and other hibernation sites.
The bat boxes must be cleaned once a year in winter, but first check whether the boxes are not occupied. With a special brush with a long handle, all cobwebs and other dirt (such as faeces) can be removed. The suitability of the nest box and the suspension must also be checked annually.
