House Sparrows

The number of house sparrows has decreased sharply in the last twenty years, an important reason for this is the decrease in the nesting opportunities. Existing breeding grounds under roof tiles and in facades disappear as a result of renovation and demolition of (older) buildings. Also due to changes in housing construction, few new nesting opportunities are created. It is therefore important to create nesting opportunities for house sparrows, for example by placing house sparrows nest boxes. In addition, it is important to provide a sparrow-friendly environment.

House sparrows have several clutches per breeding season, that season starts early in the spring (from March) and continues until September. Because they breed close together as social birds and use several nesting locations at the same time, it is highly advisable to place several hives together. The nest boxes are also used by ring sparrows.
